MAKING OF: Nordic Pavilion in 3ds Max

Writer's picture: Peter JanovPeter Janov

The Nordic Pavilion is one of my favorite modernist buildings due to its elegant simplicity, perfect proportions, and deep respect for nature. Designed by Sverre Fehn in 1962, it is located in Venice, Italy.

I decided to recreate this iconic structure in 3D to practice my architectural visualization skills in the 3ds Max. Given that the building is primarily constructed of concrete, it features a variety of intriguing surfaces that have been shaped by weather and time. I plan to simulate these imperfections by adjusting the materials in Corona Renderer. Additionally, this project offers many beautiful views, and I aim to capture them in my renders.

Let’s take a look at the process!

As usual, I started with modeling the base - walls and floor

The next move was modeling windows and a pair of doors

This staircase will be on the side of the building. I modeled it by dividing the Box and extruding the upper polygon. The surface is made by a Floor generator modifier.

I processed with creating a surrounding. This is part of the building next to the Nordic Pavilion. The greenery will be visible on the final renders.
